Wisconsin Partnership Program awards funds to expand Indigenous student recruitment
Thanks to a $1.2 million, three-year grant from the Wisconsin Partnership Program, the Native American Center for Health Professions (NACHP) within the UW School of Medicine and Public Health is launching an initiative to expand the representation of American Indian/Alaska Native health professionals in the health sciences fields and within health care delivery settings. The Increasing Indigenous Representation In Medicine Through Academics Engagement And Innovation (IIMAGIN) project will build on vital work NACHP is already engaged in, and will expand pre-college and college programming focused on health care career exploration. The project is led by Dr. Bret Benally Thompson (White Earth Ojibwe), associate professor of medicine and faculty advisor for NACHP, and Danielle Yancey (Menominee and Santee Sioux Nations descendent), director of NACHP.
