Yao Liu joins WPP Partnership Education and Research Committee

The Wisconsin Partnership Program is pleased to welcome Yao Liu, MD, MS, to the Partnership Education and Research Committee (PERC).

Dr. Liu is the William and Phyllis Huffman Research Professor and an associate professor with tenure in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences where she serves as the director of the Glaucoma Service, Glaucoma Fellowship and the UW Teleophthalmology Program.

She also serves as the vice chair of the American Glaucoma Society Research Committee and is a past chair of the American Telemedicine Association Ocular Telehealth Special Interest Group, co-authoring national guidelines for telehealth use in diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.

Liu is the study chair and Principal Investigator of a NIH/NEI-funded multicenter clinical trial, the I-TRUST Study (Implementation of Teleophthalmology in RUral Health SySTems) to sustain the effectiveness of telemedicine-based diabetic eye screening in rural primary care clinics using implementation science. Her research seeks to advance health equity by reducing the burden of avoidable blindness and visual impairment in underserved communities nationwide.

Liu’s expertise will help guide PERC in its work to support innovative education and training initiatives and novel research across the spectrum of basic, clinical, translational and population health sciences to advance WPP’s mission and vision.

The Wisconsin Partnership Program is governed by two committees, the Oversight and Advisory Committee (OAC) and the Partnership Education and Research Committee (PERC). OAC directs and approves funds for public health initiatives and provides public representation through the committee’s four community members. PERC allocates and distributes funds designated for medical education and research initiatives that advance population health.
