This project, Empowering African Immigrant Women’s Health and Well-being: A Virtual Center for Women’s Health and Mental Health in Wisconsin, will establish a virtual center for women’s health and mental health dedicated to African immigrant women. As of 2021 there were over 21,000 African immigrants in Wisconsin and this demographic has significant diversity, necessitating services tailored to effectively meet their needs.

The Challenge

As of 2021 there were over 21,000 African immigrants in Wisconsin. Socioeconomic, linguistic and cultural barriers often restrict access to health care services for these individuals and families. Because this demographic has significant diversity, there is a need for services that are tailored to effectively address and meet their needs.

Project Goals

This initiative aims to establish a virtual center for women’s health and mental health dedicated to African immigrant women which will provide accessible and culturally appropriate health care navigation services, increase awareness of mental health and women’s health issues, promote community engagement and empowerment and improve coordination of care and referral pathways by collaborating with existing healthcare providers.
