The Healing House, an initiative of JustDane, is the nation’s only 24/7 medical respite shelter designed to provide supportive housing to families recovering after hospitalization and experiencing homelessness.

Linda Ketchum, Executive Director, JustDane

With funding from a Wisconsin Partnership Program Community Impact Grant, the Healing House is expanding its services to include health care education, employment support and home visiting by a community health worker. In doing so, the project aims to strengthen community health by improving families’ access to medical care, reducing hospital readmissions and positively influencing longer-term housing and economic stability for families experiencing homelessness.

The project will also evaluate the impact of medical respite care for families with minor children. Pajarita Charles, PhD, MPA, associate professor, UW–Madison School of Social Work, serves as the academic partner.
